SOD CUTTING CEREMONY

On Wednesday 26th June, 2024, the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly organized a Sod-cutting Ceremony to officially mark the commencement of works on Urban Development Grants Four and Five (UGD-4&5) Sub-projects under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP). This follows the Award of Contracts for the execution of the Projects and subsequent Handing Over of Sites to the respective Contractors on Wednesday, 22nd May, 2024.

The Ceremony was attended and graced by the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene. It was also attended by Traditional Leaders, Religious Leaders, Officers of Various Security Agencies, Management and Staff of the Municipal Assembly, Consultant and Contractors of the Projects, Hairdressers, Dressmakers, Traders, Leaders and Members of Various Political Parties, among others.

In his speech, the Chairman for the Occasion, Barima Oppong Yeboah Ababio expressed gratitude to the Municipal Assembly for the current Projects and the numerous ones that had been implemented in the recent past. He encouraged the Assembly even in the face of limited resources, to continue to try its best to implement critical infrastructure projects to transform the Municipality. He also entreated all traders that are affected by the Projects, to exercise restraint and manage with the alternative spaces that have been provided to them, to allow for the smooth execution of the Projects for the benefit of all.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Drissa Ouattara reiterated the commitment of the Assembly to the development of the Municipality, hence the execution of many projects in the past and the initiation of the current ones. He assured participants that the Contractors have been carefully selected based on their competence, and they will work tirelessly to complete the Projects as early as possible to bring convenience to all market operatives. He pleaded with the Traditional Authority to ensure that lands which they give to the Assembly for infrastructure projects are not taken back and given to private individuals, so that the Assembly can use them for projects that will benefit the majority of residents of the Municipality.  

On her part, the Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene commended the Municipal Assembly for its decision to transform the Dormaa Ahenkro Tuesday Market into a modern market and to make it more conducive for market operatives to ply their trade. She encouraged the Assembly to construct as many lockable stores and stalls as possible, to meet the high demand for them. She urged the Contractors not only to execute quality work, but to also engage the services of local professionals in the execution of the work, since the Municipality has all the required professionals to help them do the work. She equally entreated all professionals who will be engaged by the Contractors, to eschew laziness and desist from engaging in any form of unprofessional conduct, but rather, to work hard and demonstrate commitment, dedication, and professionalism.

To help participants understand and appreciate the work to be done, the Consultant presented the scope of work which included:

  1. Construction of 9No. 14-Unit Open Market Stalls, 4No. 14-Unit Lockable Mini Stores and Paving of 2000m² Market Spaces at Dormaa Ahenkro Tuesday Market.
  2. Construction of 8No. Pavilions, 1No. Meat Shop, and Market Lighting at Dormaa Ahenkro Tuesday Market.
  3. Provision and Installation of Market and Street Lighting (67No.) in Dormaa Ahenkro Township
  4. Upgrading of 1.9Km Roads with Side Drains.

In their Commitment Speech, the Contractors gave assurance that they will work assiduously to complete the Projects within the time given them. To guarantee quality, they pledged to execute the works strictly in accordance with designs and specifications of the Projects.
